What is transcoding?

Solution Transcoding, also referred to as "Multicasting", allows you to re-broadcast your station to additional ShoutCast / IceCast servers at the same time. A transcoded stream is re-broadcasted at a lower bitrate than the main stream.

This makes it possible to offer your listeners an additional relay to listen from, if they are having problems connecting to your main (higher quality) stream. Generally, listeners will have problems connecting to your main stream if they have a slower Internet connection (i.e. Dialup).

We allow you to transcode your station to 2 additional ShoutCast / IceCast servers. Each transcoded stream must broadcast at a lower bitrate than your main stream.

Update 5/9/2009:

The transcoding module now broadcasts in MP3 or Ogg Vorbis formats. For example, you can have 1 MP3 stream and 1 Ogg Vorbis stream.
